Note :
The Green Machine also called Buck Bug / Green Body is probably the most popular salmon fly on the Miramichi. Stewart and Allen give the credit to the Rev. Elmer Smith who invented it back in 1960. Jerry Doak of Doaktown, NB is the one that popularized this fly on the Miramichi.

The Green Machine can be fished wet or dry, If you wish to fish wet, you must trim the deer hair so it will sink faster. In order to make the fly sink faster, we use the Uni Yarn instead of deer hair to build the body

After having tied the tail and the butt, you tie in your hackle by the tip. Make sure you fold the barbules using the scissors techniques. You bring your Uni thread at the head of the hook and tie in about 6 inches of two strands of Uni Yarn. Bring these two strands at the back of the hook and back to the head of the hook. Three or four turn of hackle is enough before finishing the head of the fly.

Personally, I had success with Green Machine and Shady Lady tied on double hooks # 8 and 10 and single # 6 and 8.

If you have any questions regarding this new tying method, feel free to e-mail me at Jacques@salmosalar.info.
