Fix the hook into the vise with the shank parallel to your self. Wind the thread to just before the bend in the hook and catch 2 inches of silver tinsel. Run the thread a short way back up the shank, then wind 4-5 turns of tinsel to make the tag.
Secure the loose end of the tinsel and then remove it .Catch 2 inches of yellow floss, a short distance in front of the tinsel tag, wind it down to the tag and back, Make sure the floss spreads as it is wound so it is as smooth as possible.
Wind the thread over the waste ends of the floss to form a smooth base for the body. Take the thread back to the floss tag and catch in the tail. Choose a bright coloured feather.
Take 3 inches of medium-width tinsel, oval silver tinsel and catch it in the tail. Wind the thread over the waste ends of the feather and tinsel then back to the eye.
Catch in the black floss and wind it down to the tail and back. Secure floss and remove the excess. Wind the tinsel to form the rib.
Secure the tinsel and remove the waste. Tie in the blue hackle for the collar. Next, catch the natural gray squirrel hair so that the tips are level with the tail. Secure then whip finish.
